Byron Llerena Zambrano

BIOGRAPHY

Byron Llerena Zambrano was born in Ecuador where he studied his Bachelor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in ESPE University. After his bachelor he worked in industry for 3 years where he gained experience as an Instrumentation and Control Engineer. In 2015 he was granted a scholarship by SENESCYT and moved to the United Kingdom to attend University College London (UCL) where he pursued a MSc in Nanotechnology. He was a member of the Diamond Electronics group led by Prof. Richard Jackman and worked with single crystal polished diamond to fabricate image intensifiers for night vision application purposes.

In 2017 he moved to Switzerland for his PhD in ETH Zürich under the supervision of Prof. Janos Vörös. His research is focused in soft electronics for biomedial applications and thin film biosensing.

One of the benefits of using soft electronics is the fact that surfaces are not always flat and stiff. Hence, the elastomeric nature of such sensors which is both flexible and stretchable allows these sensors to be used on such surfaces.  The projects we work on include the fabrication and characterization of such sensors for biomedical applications .
