Electrochemisty and Plasmonic in nanowells and nanopores for biosensing applications

The study of artificial membranes plays an important role in biomedical research in order to get an insight into cell to cell interaction, which is often based on transport through their membranes. This is why the permeability and transport rate of the membrane for different molecules plays an important role in understanding intercellular processes. To mimic and analyse these in-situ transport phenomena, we are developing model systems that allow the investigation of mass transport processes by optical and electrochemical measurements. These nanodevices are made up of an array of nanoholes in thin metal films and dielectrics. While the nanowell allow for capturing the analyte in small confinements, the nanopore makes it possible to flow the solution through, which makes it diffusion independent.
