Jaissle Electronic GmbH, Elektroniklabor Peter Schrems
The potentiostat (Fig. 1) is used to perform electrochemical measurements. It is either operated in the potentiostatic mode where a potential is applied and the induced current is measured or in the galvanostatic mode where a current is applied and subsequently the potential is measured. In both modes cyclic (see Fig. 2) and static measurements can be performed
In our lab the potentiostat is used in combination with a variety of electrochemical flow cells which enables parallel measurements of e.g. adsorption and electrochemistry.

Additionally, the potentiostat can also be used for impedance spectroscopy. Thereby, a sinusoidal varying potential is applied to analyse interfacial changes originating from bio-recognition events at electrode surfaces.
